Wilson, M. (Jun. 1982). Voodoo believers: some sociological insight. Journal of Sociology &
Social Welfare, 375-383. Discusses the consensual nature of reality, and the issues
that arise when the realities of the therapist and client differ in relation to several
cases of voodooism in the U.S. Problems occur in such cases because the believer is
under the authority of nonbelievers who have the power to declare them mentally ill
on the basis of their beliefs. It is argued that in such cases, the clinician needs to
understand the reality of clients before diagnosis and therapy can be achieved.
