Stephen B. Mutch
Dieser Beitrag untersucht die kurze Geschichte
der Scientology-Kirche in Australien und die
hochrangigen Bemühungen der Kirche, gegen
erheblichen Widerstand eine rechtliche
Anerkennung und soziale Akzeptanz zu
erreichen. Während es der Organisation gelang,
die rechtliche Anerkennung vor den Gerichten
zu erlangen, wird das anhaltende Versäumnis
festgestellt, diese Anerkennung in
Mitgliederwachstum umzusetzen. Mögliche
Gründe für dieses Versagen werden angeführt,
darunter die anfängliche Unterdrückung durch
die Regierung, angebliche Diskriminierung,
Widerstand der Gemeinschaft gegen eine neue,
transplantierte Religion und angeblich unfaire
Medienberichterstattung. Darüber hinaus
untersucht das Papier Beschwerden über
anhaltendes asoziales und schädliches Verhalten
im Zusammenhang mit der Organisation und
spekuliert über den Widerstand der Verbraucher
gegen die spirituellen Grundüberzeugungen und
den Ruf des Gründers. Es wird darauf
hingewiesen, dass teilweise quantitative
Bewertungen von unfairen oder sogar
voreingenommenen Medienbehandlungen mit
Vorsicht zu genießen sind. Es wird der Schluss
gezogen, dass der wahrscheinliche Grund für die
Ausrichtung der Medien auf die Organisation in
den anhaltenden Beschwerden ehemaliger
Mitglieder und Kritiker und dem
publizitätssuchenden Verhalten der Kirche liegt.

Raczej nieudany start aniżeli spokojny rejs:
głośne procesy sądowe, sukcesy i zmartwienia
Kościoła scjentologicznego w Australii
Stephen B. Mutch
W artykule przeprowadzono analizę krótkiej
historii Kościoła scjentologicznego w Australii i
szeroko znanych wysiłków tegoż Kościoła w
celu uzyskania prawnego uznania i akceptacji
społecznej wbrew niemałemu sprzeciwowi.
Mimo że organizacja odniosła sukces w
uzyskaniu prawnego uznania przed sądami,
notuje się regularne niepowodzenie w
przekuwaniu tego uznania na wzrost liczby
członków. Można dyskutować na ewentualnymi
przyczynami tego niepowodzenia, wliczając w
to początkowe ograniczenia ze strony rządu,
domniemaną dyskryminację, opór
społeczeństwa wobec nowej, przeszczepionej na
jego grunt religii, jak też rzekomo
niesprawiedliwe relacje ze strony mediów. Co
więcej, w artykule podjęto analizę skarg na
ustawicznie aspołeczne i szkodliwe zachowania
wiążące się z działalnością tej organizacji oraz
rozważono kwestię oporu wobec jej
podstawowych wierzeń religijnych i kwestię
reputacji jej założyciela. Zauważono również, że
częściowo kwantytatywne oceny
niesprawiedliwego lub nawet stronniczego
traktowania ze strony mediów należy traktować
z ostrożnością. Wyciągnięto wniosek, że
prawdopodobnym powodem zainteresowania
organizacją ze strony mediów nieustanne
skargi płynące od byłych członków oraz
krytyków, jak też poszukiwanie rozgłosu przez
sam Kościół.

Leaving Psychologically—Breaking the
Confluential Trance
Gillie Jenkinson
English
In this paper, I offer an additional explanation
for the state of trance many cult members
experience—the confluential trance. These
concepts arose from doctoral research into what
helped 29 former cult members recover from an
abusive cult experience (Jenkinson, 2016). I
address a new concept, and whilst it applied to
some participants and potentially applies to
coercive cults more broadly, further research is
required to establish the veracity of this concept
and whether it is generalizable across former-
member populations. I discuss how the
confluential trance may make it psychologically
difficult to leave an abusive cult, and I explore
how some of my doctoral-research participants
experienced this altered state and broke free
through formal and informal interventions.
Whilst the term trance is applied ubiquitously
and across a spectrum of states, and more often
in relation to hypnotic trance, I adopt the term
to imply an “altered state of consciousness” in
which an individual becomes suggestible, lacks
critical thinking, and is therefore more
“vulnerable to social influence”
(Galanter,1989, p. 65).
Within a Gestalt psychotherapy theoretical
framework, the confluential trance is shown to
be a result of a merged state—confluence—
which results in the cult member becoming open
to introjecting the cult ideology without
“chewing it over.” I hypothesize that the
resulting confluential trance is further
explanation of why the cult leader/ship and
thought reform have such a deep impact on
many.

Abandonar psicológicamente un grupo: romper
el trance confluencial
Gillie Jenkinson
sectario (Jenkinson, 2016). Aplicado a algunos
participantes, abordo un nuevo concepto
atribuido potencialmente, en líneas generales, a
sectas coercitivas. Es necesaria una
investigación más detallada para establecer su
veracidad y comprobar si se puede generalizar
entre otras muestras de exmiembros. Analizo
