About the Poet
Unknown
The future is
Unknowable
Unpredictable
Unhappened
The more fear
In their heart
The more rhetoric
To calm their panic
The more attempt
To predict the future
Damn their fearmongering
Damn their small minds
Their fear is not yours
Not yours to bear
Let them be
Be free
The future
Is yours
To Those Who Leave
There are those who leave
Because they’d rather die
Than live a lie
There are those who die
Because of fear
And hatred for themselves
If you’re still here
Know that I care
And we are many
If you dare to live
Step into the unknown
You are not alone
A real life is full
Of trouble and love
Of laughter and freedom
There are uncertainties
So many possibilities
It’s a rainbow, not black-or-white
Don’t go crawling back
Don’t live their lie
Katharina Meredith holds a BA in Psychology and
is a published author with a focus on outreach and
education. From age 10 to age 20, Katharina grew up
in a small New Age cult, where she was separated from
her parents, cut off from the outside world, taken to
three different countries, and she helped build a time
machine. The time machine never worked, and the guru eventually
went to jail for child abuse.
She is currently creating a workbook for recovery after group
coercion and writing on cultic groups and extremism. In the
fall of 2019 she will pursue her PhD in Psychology. She offers
psychoeducation via video conferencing, conducts annual
workshops in Atlanta, USA and Berlin, Germany, and is a support-
group facilitator for victims of interpersonal violence.
Her German website is katharinameredith.com She also created the
website cult-talk.com in an attempt to combine academic knowledge
with personal experience. The website has a section specifically for
people who were raised in cultic groups, including tips for partners
of former members and positive messages for how to get going and
live life on one’s own terms.
She lives in Atlanta with her husband, two children, two cats, and her
therapy pug. Her hobbies include eating, traveling, writing poetry,
painting, and reading fantasy novels. n
