Soul Wide Open: Gold has always been a meaningful color and metal to me (not in a
monetary fashion). Gold represents the precious qualities of myself, my soul, pure and
bright. It depicts the moment when I felt my soul connect with my true self, pouring over the
landscape where I lost myself, imbedded in the Catskill Mountains at the program. The gold
is overpowering, gushing over the terrain with ease, like a waterfall—beautiful, majestic, and
powerful. This piece represents the reclaiming of myself.
Voices From the Grave: This particular piece depicts the anger and rage
associated with my experience of what those responsible for the program
took from me that did not belong to them. It represents the emotional
stripping of my identity, my feelings of hopelessness, and my fantasy
of revenge. It is symbolic of my struggle to resist the teachings of the
program while I was feeling helpless, abandoned, and controlled.
Send the Pain Below: This piece is by far my most personal, related to
sexual exploitation, the process of being groomed, and the lies told to
me while I was in the program. It is about betrayal, loss of trust, and the
raw, electrically charged discovery that what I thought was love was
abuse.
