About the Artist
April Galamin
was born in Illinois into what would
become a family of 11 children. She
graduated with a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Western Illinois
University. Soon after, she joined a
KJV-only1 Bible cult in Michigan. She
had no idea of what she was getting
herself into, and she and her family
eventually uprooted and relocated from Illinois to Michigan for
the cult. She homeschooled her children for about five years,
and in time she became burned out and missed her extended
family. April began to feel very depressed, questioning the
cult’s doctrine. She and her husband walked away from the
cult in 2007 and moved back to Illinois in 2010. It took time
to turn the ship around, but following the move, April and
her family are trying to move forward. April had been a
member of the group for 19 years. Mostly, she is busy
trying to make up for lost time and is enjoying life free from
the constraints of abusive religion. She paints in watercolor
and is a member of the Illinois Watercolor Society and the
Park Ridge Art League.
